Has Jim lost his Canadian roots?

Postby Filomena » Tue Dec 05, 2006 2:37 pm

As a Canadian, I find myself forgetting that Jim is a Canadian too. He seems to be American in every way, and that makes me a little bit sad. I don't feel that way with Mike Myers, or Martin Short, or anyone else.

Is it just me?
The truth shall set you free.

I'm from Quebec and I did see the Conan special and Jim proved himself to be an easy-going down to earth Canadian boy. He's adopted the States, he's been living there for 25 years now after all, but this doesn't mean that he's forgotten about his roots. He's often asked about becoming a U.S citizen - like he was the first ever - and he'll always point out that he's got dual citizenship. Actually I don't really mind about that stuff, he was originally born in Ontario and that's all what matters to me, I am very proud!

I'm still surprised to see how casual he is at the Conan special, no ego at all. The guy is a millionaire, he lives in fancy California and gets told how great he is I'm sure pretty much everyday, yet he remains very simple and sympathic. That side of him still manages to take me by surprise, he looks like someone who you can reach. It was very nice of him to attend that show, but again he didn't have anything else to do! ;)
But if Jim renounces the fact that he's from Canada, he might as well forget all the family he's got there. I don't see why they make such a big deal out of it.
I myself dream of living in England and if I stay there long enough, it would be logical for me to become a citizen out of respect for the country, it's just common sense!

I saw him at the mall the other day. Dark glasses, long hair, ear phoes and CD player, in the record shop,
now you've heard about it.
(Just kidding, maybe not though)

Postby Canadian Jayne » Wed Dec 06, 2006 5:51 pm

I want to see a performance someday of the people who sing that
song. And I'm sure he's OK too.
My husband finished taking a tree down a month or so ago and
had all the equipment to do so, anyway, he shimmied up the tree and demolished one of the sheds at the same time, didn't plan on it, but both were coming down anyway eventually.

I was watching Lemony Snicket again and I remembered Brad Silberling pointing out that Jim based Captain Sham's accent on the people in Newfound Land, he was still in the process of becoming an American citizen at that time. Anyway, I think that says everything!
