Happy Fourth of July...

Postby quirky » Mon Jul 03, 2006 4:43 pm

...to those who celebrate it. My reminiscences are of the Vol. Fire Dept. chicken fry near the levee. Work and family has intervened and they prefer to do pancake breakfasts to raise money now....but they used to have a carnival (with a Tilt a Whirl) and a big chicken fry followed by a huge fireworks display over the river. I remember once joining my dad on the trip to buy the fireoworks in Osco, IL. Kinda like a candy store for pyromaniacs. Those are nice idyllic memories.

When we moved to Washington DC....once year we got to watch THAT fireworks display (huge and incredible) from the roof of the Department of Agriculture. I remember thinking how lucky we were to be able to do that.

My brother's still licenced to shoot off big fireworks in Illinois....I wonder if I can talk him into getting some....?

How do you celebrate it?

In Norway we make a huuuge deal out if it  It's children parades walking past the King house and waiving with the norwegan flag, and everybody is just celebrating :D
