Diaz Will Return for The Mask Sequel with Carrey
23 Jan 2025

By Tommy Pihl (Editor-in-Chief)

Cameron Diaz might be ready to revisit her iconic role in "The Mask", but only if Jim Carrey is on board. The actress, who recently made her return to the screen in Netflix's "Back in Action" after a 10-year break, shared her thoughts on a potential sequel to the 1994 hit during an interview with Access Hollywood.

“If Jim’s on board, I mean, I’ve been riding those coattails from day one,” Cameron Diaz quipped when asked about the possibility of reprising her role as Tina Carlyle, the love interest of Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey), a mild-mannered bank clerk who transforms into a wild, chaotic superhero when he dons a mysterious green mask.

"The Mask", directed by Chuck Russell, was a box office hit that launched both Cameron Diaz and Jim Carrey into even greater stardom. The movie remains a fan-favorite, leaving many to wonder if the duo might return for another wild ride in a sequel.

Jim Carrey got the exact same question a month ago, when he was promoting "Sonic the Hedgehog 3". In an interview with Comicbook.com, the actor revealed that he'd be open to returning—under the right circumstances:
"Oh gosh, you know, it has to be the right idea. If somebody had the right idea, I guess… It’s not really about the money. I joke about the money… But I never know. You can’t be definite about these things. I said I’d like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just – things tend to change.”
